WEST HARTFORD, CT ? The University of Hartford softball team dropped the final game of the weekend series with Boston University on Sunday afternoon by a 7-3 final at the UH Softball Field.
Chiya Louie went 3-for-3 in the game with two homers and two RBI for Boston University (30-11 overall, 14-3 America East). Megan Currier pitched a complete game and allowed three runs (two earned) on 10 hits while striking out five and walking three.
Hartford (20-22 overall, 10-7 America East) left runners on base in every inning but the sixth for a total of 11 in the game. Freshman Brittney Stratton threw a complete game but gave up seven runs on 13 hits while striking out six and walking four.
The Terriers took the lead on a two-out solo homer by Louie in the first inning. BU added a pair of runs in the third on an RBI single by Christy Leath and a sacrifice fly by Rachel Hebert to take a 3-0 lead.
The Hawks got two runs back in the bottom of the third on RBI singles by senior Nikki Thompson and freshman Olivia Piacentini. Hartford had the chance to score more but left the bases loaded, as Currier escaped the threat by getting an inning-ending ground out to third base.
BU padded its lead with back-to-back homers by Louie and Leath in the fifth. The Terriers also added insurance runs in the sixth and the seventh on RBI singles by Brandi Shields and Nora Militz, respectively. Hartford's final run came in the fifth on a solo homer by Piacentini, her second of the series and third of the season.
Hartford will close out the home portion of its schedule with a doubleheader against Central Connecticut State University on Tuesday, May 1 at 3 p.m.
