Hanover, NH - The University of Hartford baseball team bounced back from being swept over the weekend to take a mid-week 8-5 win over non-conference foe Dartmouth on Tuesday afternoon at Red Rolfe Field. The Hawks improve to 10-27 with the victory, while the Big Green dropped to 8-28-1 with the loss. Hartford will host Fairfield at the Hartford Baseball Field on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. in a game rescheduled due to rain.
Starting pitcher Zach Tarner was credited with the victory, having gone a pre-determined length of four innings. The victory is the first of the season for the rookie right hander, he is now 1-1 overall. Tarner allowed two runs (all earned) off of five hits, while striking out one batter.
Also seeing time on the mound was Bryan Bloch, Weston Szymanski and Ben Sobocinski. Bloch pitched two innings and allowed one earned run on a hit. Szymanski pitched the seventh innings and faced just three batters with a strikeout, ground out and fly out. Sobocinski came in to close out the game, pitching the eighth and ninth inning. He allowed two runs in that span on two hits, while recording three strike outs.
A the plate the Hawks were led by Sobocinski. He finished with three hits in four at bats with four RBI. Also adding a multi-hit day was Brady Stouffer with two hits in five at bats, while scoring four runs. Both of his hits went for doubles and both were to left field. He also reached base twice on errors. Greg Cinelli and Bill Perry also had RBI's on the day. Hartford finished with eight hits, while allowing eight from the Big Green.
Hartford scored early with a run in the first inning off the lead off double from Stouffer. He would take third on a fly ball to right and score two batters later on the first RBI from Sobocinski, a sacrifice to center. Dartmouth answered right back with a run in the bottom half of the first off a lead off single for Erik Bell.
Hartford score two runs in the third, three in the fifth and single runs in the seventh and ninth to guarantee the victory. The Big Green picked up a single run in the second and then scored their final three runs on solo home runs for Bell, James Wren and Michael Pagliarulo.
The games was the final road game of the regular season for Hartford, who will play their final 14 regular season games at the Hartford Baseball Field.
