Hawks Drop a Pair in Final Day of New Balance Invitational

          

West Hartford, CT ? The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped two 3-0 matches to the University of Rhode Island and Central Connecticut in the final day of action in the University of Hartford New Balance Invitational at the Reich Family Pavilion. The Hawks are now 0-5 on the season. Rhode Island was named the Invitational Champion by virtue of a 3-0 record throughout the two-day event.

 

For the weekend, six players were named to the New Balance Invitational All-Tournament team led by Rhode Island's Lauren McIntosh, who was named the Most Valuable Player of the Invitational. Also on the All-Tournament team from Rhode Island was Caitly Welsh. Joining them was Lauren Snyder and Amanda Bayer from Central Connecticut, Lauren Boothby from Fairleigh Dickinson and the Hawks Megan Schauffele.

 

The Hawks first loss of the day came to the hands of the Rhode Island Rams by scores of 30-18, 30-17 and 30-27. Hartford was led in that match by Schauffele and Erin Macrowho both finished with nine kills, tying the game high for all players. Hallie Fullagar finished just behind them with eight players, while three other players entered the scoring column.

 

Lindsay Ford continued to marshal the Hawks offense as the primary setter. She finished the first match of the day with 26 assists. On the defensive end of the floor the Hawks were led by Fullagar who finished with 11 digs, the only player in double figures.

 

Hartford then took on in-state rival Central Connecticut in the night cap, dropping the match by scores of 30-18, 30-22 and 30-22. Fullagar managed double digit kills against the Blue Devils with 10 to lead the team. She was followed by Maddison Molyneux, who finished with eight and Schauffele, who added seven. Ford finished the match with 26 assists, while Schauffele led the defensive charge with eight digs.

 

Hartford will be back in action on Tuesday night, when they travel across the state to take on the Quinnipiac Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. in Hamden, CT.
