W Soccer Earns First Victory Against Army

WEST HARTFORD, CT ? The University of Hartford women's soccer team picked up its first victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Army on Friday night at Al-Marzook Field.

Hartford (1-3-2 overall) netted the game's only goal in the first half on a shot by sophomore Laura Guigli. Senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Cook earned her first shutout of the year with two saves.

Army (2-4-1 overall) took the first shot of the game but wouldn't get another chance for the rest of the half. The Hawks went ahead in the 38th minute when Guigli spun around her defender inside the box and fired a shot from the right side that found the inside of the far post. It was her first tally of the season.

Trailing 1-0 at the half, Army turned up its attack in the final 10 minutes of the game. The Black Knights had their best scoring chance in the 87th minute when Kelley Robbins put a shot on goal. Cook made the initial save but couldn't hold onto the ball, and the rebound rolled out to Jenna Roberts. Her attempt from 10 yards out was rushed and wide to the left.

Goalkeeper Alex Lostetter did her best to keep the Black Knights in the game. She finished with three saves on the night, two of which came on the same sequence in the 25th minute to keep the game scoreless.

Hartford will next play at Holy Cross on Sunday, September 23 at 4 p.m.
