Hawks Post Third Shutout 1-0 Over Temple on Saturday at Al-Marzook Field

West Hartford, CT - The University of Hartford men's soccer team picked up its fourth win of the season with a 1-0 shutout, the third shutout of the season, over the Temple Owls on Saturday night at Al-Marzook Field. Hartford's only goal of the game came from Gary Muir, his third of the season. The Hawks are now 4-1-1 overall, while Temple falls to 2-4-1.

Hartford's only needed goal came in the 28th minute when Muir sent a pass from Daniel Antunez to the right corner of the net. Antunez began the play by passing from left to right into the middle of the box where Oswald Adu wisely let it role past to an open Muir for the shot eluding the Owls keeper, Tony Pratico.

“Once again tonight our 12th man proved to be instrumental in the Hawks victory and that 12th man is the wonderful support of our fans,” said head coach Dan Gaspar. “Our team showed a lot of character and pride to come back after losing to Fairfield 4-0 to beat shutout Temple tonight. They proved that they have the ability to bounce back. They were determined to win today and that is important.”

Hartford had another brilliant look at the net in the 11th minute when Antunez chipped a shot from the right of the box towards an open net, but Temple defender, Augustin Coly, was able to get a top of his foot on the ball, enough to push it over the crossbar.

The Owls took four shots in the first half, compared to six for Hartford. Both keepers finished the first 45 minutes with three saves. The teams would only get one shot a piece on goal in the second half with each keeper recording a save. Hartford's net minder Matt Glaeser finished with four total. The Owls took eight total shots in the game, while Hartford finished with 10.

The Hawks will next play on Friday night when they host Rhode Island in the final of three-straight home games. The Rams and Hawks are set to battle at 6:00 p.m. on Al-Marzook Field. Fans can watch the game live on the internet by logging onto HartfordHawks.com and going to the Hawks Nest.
