W Soccer Tops Holy Cross in OT

WORCESTER, MA - The University of Hartford women's soccer team topped Holy Cross 1-0 in overtime on Sunday afternoon for its second straight victory.

Freshman Mary Beth Hamilton netted the game-winning goal with 36 seconds remaining in the first overtime period. The Hawks improved to 2-3-2 overall on the season while Holy Cross dropped to 2-6-0.

Hartford's goal came off a direct kick just outside of the 18-yard box. Senior Sara Flowers passed it to sophomore Laura Guigli, who shot the ball on the ground right up the middle of the box. Hamilton, who was in front of the net, deflected the shot past the goalie from five yards out. It was the first tally of her career.

Senior goalkeeper Elizabeth Cook made six saves to earn her second straight clean sheet. Hartford, which outshot Holy Cross 27-17, put 14 shots on goal before finally slipping one by Mary Ferketic.

Hartford will next play at Colgate University on Friday, September 28 at 7 p.m.
