Volleyball Tops Sacred Heart in Three Games



Fairfield, CT - The University of Hartford volleyball team snapped its five-match losing skid with a three-game victory over the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Tuesday night. The Hawks saw victories of 30-27, 30-21 and 30-26 to pick up their seventh victory of the season. Hartford is currently 8-10 overall.

 

The Hawks as a team hit .292 from the field (42 kills, 14 errors, 96 attacks) with three players hitting .400 or better, Erin Macro, Maddison Molyneux and Katie O'Hara. O'Hara led the team with a .545 hitting percentage with just one error in 11 attacks, with seven kills. Molyneux finished just behind her with a .444 attack percentage, adding six kills, two errors on nine attacks. Macro finished with a .400 hitting percentage with seven kills, one error in 14 hits.

 

Leading the Hawks hitters was Jennifer Monroy and Hallie Fullagar who both finished with 10 kills. Monroy finished the match with just four errors in 26 total attacks (.192 attack percentage), while Fullagar had four errors in 25 total attacks for a .240 hitting percentage. Lindsay Ford and Sarah Rasor split the setting responsibilities, with Rasor seeing her first action in a setter's role. Ford led the team with 16 assists, while Rasor added 12.

 

Defensively the Hawks were led by Sarah Boss who finished with six digs. Just behind her was Rasor and Fullagar who each added five. The Hawks served nine aces, but were plagued by 12 receiving aces off Sacred Heart serves. Mydori Saipale led the Pioneers with 11 kills, but also added 10 errors. As a team the Pioneers saw 30 attack errors, compared to just 35 total kills. The Pioneers hit .049 for the match.

 

The Hawks will be back in action on Friday night when they travel to Albany, NY to open the America East portion of their schedule at Albany for a 7:00 p.m. start.
