West Hartford, CT ? The Hartford men's soccer team picked up its second victory of the season with an impressive 3-0 win over St. Peter's College at Al-Marzook Field on Friday night. The Hawks improve to 2-0-1 overall, while St. Peter's falls to 2-1 overall. The Hawks were led by newcomer Andreas Blamo, who was named the MVP after scoring two goals.
“I was very impressed with the support of our crowd it was key in pushing our players to success,” complimented head coach Dan Gaspar. “The atmosphere in Al-Marzook Field really reminded me of a European soccer stadium.”
“We played a very technical game tonight. In the first half we played to their style, which we addressed at halftime. In the second we played our style, aggressive and fast paced.”
The Hawks put the first notch on the scoreboard in the 48th minute when Blamo connected on a cross from Kevin Hall, heading the ball to the back of the net. The goal was the second of the season for Blamo.
Hartford then added two insurance goals within a 23 second span with less than 1:30 to play. The first goal was a break away for Blamo, creating an open look at the net, scoring to the left of the Peacocks keeper Matthew Lawlor.
In the 90th minute of play the Hawks had another break away play where Daniel Antunez chipped the ball across the box to a wide open Gary Muir who blasted a shot to the back left corner of the goal.
The Hawks out shot St. Peter's by a 12-8 margin, forcing Lawlor to make three saves in the game. Hartford keeper Matt Glaeser finished the game with two saves. The hawks also won the battle of corner kicks with four attempts to none for St. Peter's.
The Hawks will next play on September 14, when they travel to Maryland to take on James Madison at 7:00 p.m.
