Hawks Complete Sweep at Holy Cross, Win 3-0 over the Crusaders and Coppin State

 

Worcester, MA - The Hartford volleyball team completed play in the Holy Cross Crusaders Invitational with a pair of three-game victories over Coppin State and Holy Cross on Saturday. The Hawks finished the two-day tournament with a 3-0 record, they are now 4-5 overall in 2007.

 

The Hawks opened the day with a victory over Coppin State by scores of 30-16, 30-16 and 30-14. Hartford then came back in the final match of the day to defeat the host Crusaders by scores of 30-17, 30-18 and 30-18.

 

 

 

 

Katie O'Hara and Erin Macro led the Hawks on the day, both finishing with 18 kills. Macro led all players in the first match, finishing with nine kills, one of eight Hawks to record at least on kill. She then added nine kills in the second match. O'Hara led the Hawks against Holy Cross with 10 kills, the only player to record double digit kills on the day. O'Hara finished with eight kills against Coppin State.

 

As a team the Hawks finished with a .200 attack percentage against Coppin State, with four players finishing with a hitting percentage over 200. O'Hara led the team, hitting .278 (eight kills, three errors, 18 attempts). Jennifer Monroy  and Maddison Molyneux both finished with .250 attack percentages. They each finished with six kills. Also hitting well for the Hawks was Hallie Fullagar, finishing with seven kills.

 

Lindsay Ford captained the Hawks offense, finishing with 26 assists on 41 total kills. She also added a kill, four digs and three service aces. Defensively the Hawks were led by Monroy, Fullagar and Sarah Rasor, each recording five digs. The Hawks held Coppin State to just 18 kills on the day. As a team Hartford finished with 17 service aces, led by Lauren Flores who finished with five.

 

In the nightcap, joining O'Hara as leading hitters was Monroy with eight, Macro with nine and Fullagar with eight. O'Hara finished the match with a .400 hitting percentage. She finished with 10 kills and two errors in 20 total attempts. Molyneux and Macro also finished with hitting percentage better than .350. Molyneux finished with five kills and only one error in 11 attacks for a .364 attack percentage. Macro finished with nine kills, three errors in 17 attempts for a .353 attack percentage.

 

Ford again led the Hawks in assists, this time adding 35 helpers in 41 total kills. The Hawks recorded assists on all but one kill in the match. Defensively, the Hawks were led by Fullagar who recorded 18 digs. She was joined in double figures by Flores who finished with 10. As a team, the Hawks finished with 10 service aces against the Crusaders. Flores again led the team, this time with three.

 

The Volleyball team will be back in action on Tuesday night, September 11, when they welcome Marist to the Reich Family Pavilion for a 6:00 p.m. start.
