Glastonbury, CT ? The University of Hartford women's tennis team opened its spring schedule with a dual match against in-state rival Fairfield University at the Glastonbury Tennis Club on Sunday. The Hawks dropped a 7-0 decision to the Stags, but saw its best action of the day come from Nikki Haynal at number three singles.
The teams played the singles matches first, dropping the first five positions. Kasey Michels at second singles picked up a pair of games in her first set against Paulina Rys, before falling by a 6-2, 6-1 score. Haynal dropped her third singles match to Michaela Cerrone, but saw the most success, winning three games in each set.
In doubles play, the Hawks Michels and Raquel Casino dropped the first doubles set after holding a brief lead at 5-3. Haynal and Hali Dorfman saw the only set victory for the Hawks at second doubles by an 8-4 score, but Hartford was unable to field a third doubles team, therefore forfetting the doubles point to the stags.
The women's team will return to action on February 24 when they host Rhode Island at the Glastonbury Tennis Club at 12:00 p.m.
