West Hartford, CT ? The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped a four-set (25-17, 15-25, 25-27, 11-25) match to in-state rival Central Connecticut in the final tune-up before beginning America East Conference play this weekend. The Hawks open the conference portion of the schedule at Binghamton on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Hartford picked up its only point with a first set win, hitting a match-best .308 in the first set. The Hawks committed only three errors, while recording 11 kills in 26 total attacks. The Hawks then struggled to hit in the second set, connecting for 10 kills but committing seven errors in 34 total attacks. The third match, the Hawks outhit Central Connecticut, but the Blue Devils battled late in the set to pull ahead in the match. The Hawks then hit negative numbers in the final match, committing a match-high 13 errors, while recording just four kills in 27 total attacks.
For the match, the Hawks were led by juniors Erin Macro (Lincoln, RI) and Maddison Molyneux (Caledon, Ontario), who each finished with 12 kills. Molyneux led the jitters with a .207 attack percentage with six errors in 29 total attacks. Macro finished with nine errors in 33 total attacks for a .091 attack percentage. As a team, the Hawks hit .089 with 41 total kills, 30 errors in 123 total attacks.
Also hitting well for Hartford was junior Hallie Fullagar (Mesa, AZ) who finished with nine kills and freshman Lindsay Makowicki (Norwich, CT) who finished with five kills. The Hawks offense was led by sophomore setter Lindsay Ford (Carson, NV) who finished with 35 assists, a match-high for both teams. The Blue Devils were led by Lauren Snyder who finished with 13 kills.
Defensively, Hartford was led by freshman Danielle Etta (Cold Spring, NY) who finished with eight digs. Junior Bettina Woodman (Fairfield, CT) added six digs, while Ford and junior Sarah Boss (Fremont, NH) added five each. Macro and freshman Michelle Cordell (Orlando, FL) both added three blocks of the Hawks six total.
