West Hartford, CT ? The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped a three-set match to the UMBC Retrievers, 25-21, 25-17 and 25-16, on Friday night at the Reich Family Pavilion. Hartford drops to 5-15 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while UMBC improves to 13-6 and 3-0 in America East action.
Hartford was led by Erin Macro who finished with 10 kills, the only player in the match to record double digits kills. Macro also led the team, hitting .273 from the field with four errors in 24 total attacks. Hallie Fullagar finished second for Hartford with eight kills, while Lindsay Makowicki and Maddison Molyneux finished with seven.
Lindsay Ford led the team with 27 assists, one shy of the match high. Defensively, Danielle Etta led Hartford with 14 digs, the only player to finish with double digit digs. As a team, Hartford finished with a .053 attack percentage (32 kills, 27 errors, 94 attacks). The Hawks top hitting set came in the first when they finished with 13 kills and six errors in 32 total attacks for a .219 attack percentage.
UMBC finished the match hitting .198 from the field with 32 kills, 14 errors in 91 total attacks. Ashley Oscars led UMBC with nine kills, while Alexandria Spaay finished with a match-best 28 assists.
The Hawks will return to action on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. when they welcome Albany to the Reich Family Pavilion for an America East match.
