WSoccer Finds Offense in Albany Win

WEST HARTFORD, CT ? The University of Hartford women's soccer team scored a season-high four goals in a shutout victory over the University at Albany on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

Hartford (6-4-4 overall, 3-1-1 America East), unbeaten in its last four games, got a pair of goals from junior Laura Guigli. Classmate Becky Flowers and sophomore Mary Beth Hamilton added a goal and assist apiece while senior Kacey Busque chipped in with two assists.

The Hawks dominated possession the entire match and outshot the Great Danes (3-13-0 overall, 1-3-0 America East) by a 16-1 margin. Albany failed to put a shot on goal in the contest as Hartford recorded its seventh shutout of the season.

Guigli got the Hawks on the scoreboard in the ninth minute off a feed from Flowers from the right side. She took the pass inside the box and flicked a shot into the lower-left corner of the goal that beat Albany goalkeeper Amber Maisonet.

Hartford, despite chances to increase its lead later in the half, carried the 1-0 edge into the locker room at halftime. Guigli, however, quickly added her second goal of the season just over 10 minutes into the stanza. Hamilton found her at the top of the 18-yard box, and after taking a few touches to the right side, Guigli fired a shot inside the left post that found the back of the net.

The Hawks' final two goals came on nearly identical plays that were separated by less than four minutes. In each case the play was set up by an Albany foul just outside the box on the right side. Busque took the free kick each time; in the 62nd minute she found Flowers in the box for a header and goal, and in the 65th minute it was Hamilton who headed one home. It was the second goal on the season for Flowers and the first for Hamilton.

Hartford remained undefeated against Albany and improved to 8-0-0 in the all-time series. The Great Danes have yet to score in three trips to Alumni Stadium.

Hartford will next host Binghamton on Thursday, October 16 at 6 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
