WSoccer Falls at New Hampshire

 

DURHAM, NH - The University of Hartford women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at the University of New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon.

The Hawks (7-5-4 overall, 4-2-1 America East) led by a goal but gave up two scores in the final 13 minutes of the contest. New Hampshire (6-9-1 overall, 5-2-0 America East) netted the game-winning goal with 80 seconds remaining in the game.

Hartford got on the scoreboard in the first half on senior Brittany Black's first goal of the season. Freshman Breeanna Robinson served a ball into the box from the right flank that Black buried into the left corner of the net.

The Wildcats tied the game in the 78th minute on a goal scored by Michelle Sheehan off a rebound. Caitlin Whelan put the initial shot on goal that was stopped by freshman Lauren Brodeur. The rebound came out to Sheehan and she finished it off into the left corner.

The game looked destined to go into overtime until Sheehan found Sara Hourihan on a give-and-go opportunity. Hourihan placed her shot inside the right goalpost to put the Wildcats up 2-1 with 1:20 remaining.

Brodeur faced 16 shots and made five saves. Nikki Golding picked up the win in goal for New Hampshire, making four stops against 16 shots.

Hartford returns to action against Bryant on Wednesday, October 22 at Alumni Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
