Stony Brook, NY ? The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped a four-set match to the Stony Brook Seawolves in the first of two meetings between the America East foes this weekend. The Hawks picked up a 25-12 win in the first match, behind hot hitting, but fell by scores of 25-15, 25-12 and 25-13 in the next three sets. Hartford falls to 5-19 overall and 0-6 in conference play.
Erin Macro led two Hartford players with double digit kills, recording 13 total. She finished the match with eight errors in 35 attempts for a .143 attack percentage. Joining her in double figures was Maddison Molyneux with 10 kills. Molyneux led the team with a .261 attack percentage with four errors in 23 total attempts for a .261 hitting percentage.
Lindsay Makowicki also hit well for Hartford with six kills and a .273 attack percentage with three errors in 11 total attacks. Also hitting well for Hartford was Hallie Fullagar with seven kills. Lindsay Ford marshaled the Hawks offense with 30 assists, leading the team.
Defensively the Hawks were led by Danielle Etta and Sarah Boss who finished with seven and six digs respectively, while two players added blocks, Makowicki and Michelle Cordell. As a team, the Hawks hit .145 with 40 total kills, 24 errors in 110 total attacks. Hartford's best hitting set came in the first where they connected on 15 of 21 attacks with just one errors for a season best .667 attack percentage.
Stony Brook (10-14, 1-5 AE) finished the match hitting .295 as a team, with 42 total kills and 14 errors in 95 total attacks. Gulce Dikecligil led the team in hitting with a match-high 19 kills and a .459 attack percentage (two errors, 37 total attacks).
The Hawks and Seawolves will complete their two-match America East schedule on Sunday when Stony Brook comes to West Hartford for a 2:00 p.m. match at the Reich Family Pavilion.
