Vestal, NY ? The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped its America East opener, 3-0 (9-25, 18-25, 18-25), on the road at Binghamton University on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks were led by juniors Erin Macro and Bettina Woodman. Hartford is now 5-13 on the season and 0-1 in America East action.
Macro led the Hawks offense with 10 kills, the only player in double digits. She finished with a .185 attack percentage with five errors in 27 total attacks. She was followed on the offense by Hallie Fullagar who finished with seven kills, but suffered 11 hitting errors for a negative hitting percentage. The only other Hawks to record kills was Michelle Cordell and Maddison Molyneux, finishing with two and three respectively.
Woodman led the Hawks defense, finishing with eight digs, tied for the team lead with Lindsay Ford. Ford also led the Hawks with 20 assists, recording an assist on all but two of the Hawks 22 kills. Also playing well on the defensive end of the floor was Fullagar and Danielle Etta who each finished with five digs.
As a team, the Hawks hit -.128 from the field. They combined for 22 kills, 36 errors in 109 total attacks. The Bearcats finished the game hitting .232, with 33 kills, 14 errors in 82 total attacks. Leading the way for Binghamton was Anna Lejina with a match-high 11 kills.
The Hawks return to action on Wednesday night when they travel up I-84 to Storrs, CT and face the Connecticut Huskies at Gample Pavilion at 7:00 p.m.
