ORONO, ME ? The University of Hartford women's soccer team played to a 0-0 tie at the University of Maine on Thursday afternoon.
Hartford (5-4-4 overall, 2-1-1 America East) got a strong effort from freshman Lauren Brodeur in goal. She finished the game with two saves and picked up her fourth shutout of the season. Maine (5-2-5 overall, 2-1-1 America East) got a similar performance from Jasmine Phillips, who made four stops to record the clean sheet.
The biggest play of the contest came in the 58th minute when Hartford was awarded a penalty kick due to a foul inside the 18-yard box. Senior Lauren Aldred took the kick but was stoned by Phillips.
Hartford owned a 10-7 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks. Aldred, sophomore Mary Beth Hamilton and freshmen Michele DeSanti and Amber Smyth all put shots on goal but couldn't get one past Phillips.
Hartford will next host Albany on Sunday, October 12 at 2 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
