Men's Soccer Closes Out Regular Season With 2-0 Loss to Boston

Boston, MA
? The University of Hartford men's soccer team dropped its final regular season game of the 2008 season, falling 2-0 to conference foe Boston University on Saturday afternoon.

The Terriers scored late in the first half, and added their final tally with just under two minutes remaining to play.   The Hawks put up eight shots, four in each period, but could not get anything past Boston goalkeeper Hrafn Davidsson, who recorded three saves for his sixth complete shutout of the year.  Hartford keeper Nenad Cudic recorded two saves.

For the Hawks, freshman Jorge Rodriguez was named the “Man of the Match” for his efforts at the defensive end of the pitch.

“We lost to a quality team who will be crowned the regular season conference champions,” commented Hartford head coach Dan Gaspar following the game.  “Now we will prepare for the tournament, where anything can happen.”

With the win, the Terriers improve to 9-5-3 overall and 6-1-1 in the America East, while earning at least a share of the regular season title and a first round bye in the America East conference tournament.  Despite the loss, the Hawks (7-7-3 overall, 3-4-1 America East) earned a spot in the upcoming conference tournament, finishing fifth in the regular season standings.  The first round of the America East Tournament will be held on Saturday, November 8.  Pairings for the quarterfinals will be announced by the America East on Sunday, November 2 following the completion of the 2008 regular season.
