Hawks Volleyball Ends Season with Four-Set Loss at UMBC


Baltimore, MD ? The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped a four-set match to the UMBC Retrievers in its final match of the 2008 season. Hartford's only points came in the first set with a 25-22 victory. The Hawks then dropped three-straight sets by scores of 14-25, 19-25 and 19-25. Hartford closes out the 2008 season with a 6-25 overall record and a 0-12 mark in conference action.


Erin Macro led the Hawks, one of two hitters in double digits, with 13 kills. Joining her was Hallie Fullagar with 10 kills. Macro finished the match with a .161 attack percentage with eight errors in 31 total attempts. Lindsay Ford led the Hawks hitters with a .556 attack percentage, putting down five kills with no errors in nine total attempts.

Ford also led the Hawks with 28 assists, while Sarah Boss led Hartford's defense with a career-high 22 digs. Her previous career-high was 20 set last season against Maine. Also recording double digits in the digs column was Maddison Molyneux with 12.

 

Also hitting well for Hartford was Lindsay Makowicki and Molyneux with nine and seven kills, respectively. Makowicki sported a .217 attack percentage in the final match of her rookie campaign. She finished with four errors in 23 total attacks.

 

The Hawks finished the match hitting .123 with 48 kills, 31 errors and 138 total attacks. Hartford's first set was the shining point for the hitters, finishing with a .394 attack percentage with 17 kills, four errors in 33 total attacks.

The Retrievers finished the match with a.328 attack percentage (54 kills, 15 errors, 119 attacks), led by Alyssa Lang with 13 kills. She was one of four players to record double digit kills.
