West Hartford, CT - The University of Hartford men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches over the weekend as they opened conference play. They fell to Binghamton University on Friday 7-0 and dropped a 7-0 decision to Boston University on Saturday. The Hawks are now 0-7 overall and 0-2 in the America East.
The Hawks best match up of the day against the Bearcats was shaping up to be the first singles showdown between Artur Muller and Sven Vloedgraven. The two were tied 5-5 in the first set before Muller retired for medical reasons. Filip Miletic took on Arnav Jain in the third singles position dropping decision of 6-3, 6-2.
Also picking up games for the Hawks was William White at number two singles with 6-2, 6-1 scores in a loss to Alex Dobrin. The teams played singles first, with the Bearcats winning all six points and picking up first and second doubles for the final point of the match. White paired up with Aaron Kooden at first doubles falling to Vloedgraven and Gregoire Berner (8-2), while Emmett Drake and Tim Glickman fell at second doubles by an 8-1 score to Andreas Danielsson and Jon Bonnet.
Against the Terriers, Hartford saw its best singles match come in the sixth position wehre Edward Hoey took on Armir Mehmetti. Hoey dropped the first set 6-4 and the match by a 6-1 decision in the final set. Also scoring game wins for the Hawks was Miletic at second singles, Drake at third singles and Kooden in fifth singles.
After the Terriers took home six points in singles play the Hawks dropped the second and third doubles, allowing the shutout. Drake and Glickman dropped an 8-1 decision in second doubles, while Kooden and Miletic fell by the same margin at third doubles.
The men's tennis team will return to action on February 23, when they host Rhode Island at the Glastonbury Tennis Club for a 1:00 p.m. start.
