Glastonbury, CT ? The University of Hartford men's and women's tennis teams both dropped 7-0 decision to Rhode Island over the weekend, the men on Saturday and the women on Sunday. The men's team drops to 0-8 on the season, while the women stand at 0-4 following the loss.
The men's team saw their best action of the day come in double competition. The teams opened the match with doubles play and Hartford dropped the first doubles decision at the number one position. William White and Filip Miletic dropped the first doubles match to Jared Dorfman and Jeff Cote by an 8-0 decision.
The Hawks then saw three game victories at second doubles and two at third doubles. Emmett Drake and Timothy Glickman fell at second doubles by an 8-3 margin to A.J. Nelson and Dixon Simmons, while Aaron Kooden and Edward Hoey fell at third doubles, by an 8-2 margin, to Adam Gart and Steve Conroy. In singles play the men's team saw set game points come in three different matches, Drake and number two singles, Kooden at number five singles and Hoey at six singles.
The women's team was led by Raquel Casino and Kasey Michels at first and second singles. The teams played double first with Rhode Island picking up victories in all three. The best doubles match came at the number two position where Nicole Haynal and Jessica Ruggles fell by an 8-2 margin.
Michels saw the best match of the afternoon, dropping a 6-4,6 -3 decision to Grace Hedstrom in the second singles position. Casino dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision at first singles to Nyssa Peele, while Nikki Haynal picked up game victories against Christen Cadigan at third singles.
Both he men's and women's tennis teams will return to action on the road at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Tenafly, NJ on Saturday, March 1 at 7:00 p.m.
