Men's and Women's Tennis Fall to New Jersey Institute of Technology

Tenafly, NJ - The University of Hartford men's and women's tennis teams dropped decisions to the New Jersey Institute of Technology over the weekend. The men's team saw a 6-1 loss, while the women were shut out 7-0. Both teams remain winless this season, the women are 0-5, the men are 0-9.

"This weekend we faced off against a solid tennis program in a tough environment and came away with a couple of great individual match wins,” said head coach Mike Raymond. “Hoey and Miletic really displayed their progress in their doubles match, and Ed proved how mentally tough he can be in his singles win. On the women's side, Tafur played one of the best matches she's ever played in a Hartford uniform. I'm encouraged by everyone's progress as a team and hopefully that will translate into some wins in the near future."

The men's team saw its point come in sixth singles where Edward Hoey picked up a 6-4, 3-6 (10-8) decision over Doug Zytko. Hoey also combined with Fil Miletic to pick up a doubles victory, defeating Sytko and Ramy Lawandy at third doubles 8-5.

The Highlanders opened the match by winning the doubles point, with victories at first and second doubles. Aaron Kooden also saw success in his fifth single match were he picked up a pair of games in his two sets, dropping a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Siddharth Verma.

The women's team saw its most successful match from Michelle Tafur at sixth singles. Tafur forced a deciding set before falling by scores of 7-6 (7-5), 7-5. The Hawks were shut out in first, third, fourth and fifth singles, while Kasey Michels won a game at second singles (6-1, 6-0 loss to Isha Toor). New Jersey opened the match winning all three doubles matches.
