NEW HAVEN, CT ? The University of Hartford lacrosse team dropped its final non-conference game of the season at Yale University on Tuesday night by an 11-3 final.
Hartford (0-8 overall) was outshot 48-19 in the contest. Senior Tom Harris and freshman Michael Cudmore each finished with a goal and an assist for the Hawks while junior Jacob Eustice added a score. Tyler Casertano and Brendan Gibson led Yale (2-4 overall) with two goals and two assists apiece.
Yale never trailed after scoring two goals in the first give minutes of the game. Hartford responded with an unassisted goal by Cudmore to make it 2-1, though the Bulldogs scored 1:49 before the end of the first quarter to go back up by two goals.
The Hawks cut the deficit to 3-2 with 5:55 to play in the first half. Eustice scored on a feed from Harris as Hartford looked to climb back into the game. Yale, however, scored three goals in the final 5:07 of the stanza to lead 6-2 at the break.
The Bulldogs netted the first goal of the second half with 8:40 to go in the third quarter to go up 7-2. Cudmore then found Harris for a score that would get the Hawks to within four goals, but Yale netted the final four goals en route to the win.
Junior Jon McMahon played the majority of the game in goal for Hartford and finished with 13 saves. Freshman Lee Malandrino played the final 5:46 and made one stop while allowing one goal. Yale starter George Carafides played almost 55 minutes between the pipes and made six saves.
Hartford will open America East play against Vermont on Saturday, March 29 at Al-Marzook Field. The game is scheduled to being at 1 p.m.
