LAX Can't Hold On at SBU

 

STONY BROOK, NY ? The University of Hartford lacrosse team dropped an 11-7 decision at Stony Brook University on Saturday night.

The Hawks (0-11 overall, 0-3 America East) were 15 minutes away from their first victory of the season, but the Seawolves (6-4 overall, 2-1 America East) outscored them 5-0 in the fourth quarter to earn the victory. Senior Brian Tilley led Hartford with four goals while sophomore Justin Bearse and freshmen Vinny Pellizzi and Leif Abrahamson each added a score. Jordan McBride led SBU with four goals while Kevin Crowley and Owen Adams each scored three.

Neither team led by more than two goals over the first three quarters. Tilley scored three times in the third quarter, his final goal coming with five seconds remaining in the stanza to give the Hawks a 7-6 lead.

Stony Brook wasted little time in the fourth quarter, scoring three goals in the first five minutes, including a pair by McBride. Bo Tripodi netted the game-winning goal with 12:13 remaining in the contest. SBU goalie Alex Kajencki made his only two saves of the game in the final quarter to preserve the win. Hartford goalkeeper Jon McMahon faced 33 shots and made nine saves.

Hartford will next play at UMBC on Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m. The game will be televised by ESPNU at 8 p.m.
