Hempstead, NY ? The University of Hartford men's and women's tennis teams dropped 7-0 decisions on the road at Hofstra University on Sunday afternoon. Both teams remain winless on the season, the men 0-9 and the women 0-7 during the spring season.
The women's team saw one of its best chances for a point come in doubles play. At number two doubles Nikki Haynal and Hali Dorfman won their match by an 8-4 score over Tracy Ferrer and Kristina Middlemiss. Raquel Casino and Kasey Michels took Valerie McDonald and Morganne Downing late into the first singles match before falling by an 8-5 score, while the Pride won the doubles point as Hartford was unable to field a third doubles team.
In singles play, the women were led by Michels and Dorfman. Michels at number two singles dropped 6-2 and 6-3 decisions to McDonald. Dorfman came the closest to winning a set, but dropped her number four singles match to Ferrer by 6-2, 6-4 scores.
The men's doubles teams were led by Aaron Kooden and Mark Goldfinger at the number three position. They dropped an 8-2 match to Alex Hosner and Matt Schwartz. In singles play, Kooden led the team at number four singles. He scored four points overall, but fell by a pair of 6-2 scores to Andy Cha.
Both tennis teams will next play at Holy Cross in midweek action. The women's team will take on the Crusaders on Wednesday, April 16, at 4:30 p.m., while the men take on the task on Thursday, April 17, at 3:30 p.m.
