Softball Drops Two at Sacred Heart

 

FAIRFIELD, CT ? The University of Hartford softball team dropped a doubleheader at Sacred Heart University on Wednesday afternoon by final scores of 1-0 and 8-0.

Hartford (11-7 overall) managed only four hits in the two games and never got a runner past second base. The second game was called in the fifth inning after Sacred Heart plated four runs in the frame to enact the eight-run mercy rule.

In the first game, sophomore Brittney Stratton (7-3 overall) took the loss in the circle despite throwing a good game. She gave up one run on six hits while striking out 11 and walking two.

In the second game, the Pioneers held the Hawks to only one hit, a single by junior Amanda Sais in the third. Freshman Amanda Singer (4-4 overall) got the start and allowed four runs (one earned) over four innings. Classmate Amanda Farnan took the ball in relief in the fifth and gave up four runs on five hits in two-thirds of an inning.

Hartford will next host Vermont for a three-game series this weekend beginning on Saturday, April 5 at the UH Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
