WSoccer Wins 3-0 Over FDU

WEST HARTFORD, CT ? The University of Hartford women's soccer team picked up its first victory of the 2008 season on Sunday with a 3-0 final over Fairleigh Dickinson University at Alumni Stadium.

Hartford improved to 1-0-1 overall. Freshman Breeanna Robinson led the Hawks with a pair of goals while senior Kacey Busque added two assists.

Junior Becky Flowers got things started for the Hawks in the 23rd minute with her first goal of the season.  After a foul yielded a Hartford free kick from the far corner of the field, Busque served up a perfect ball into the box that Flowers headed past the diving FDU goalkeeper.

Hartford made it a 2-0 lead before halftime thanks to another play by Busque. She hustled after a loose ball as it rolled to the endline and saved it from going over. She then centered the ball into the box and found Robinson for the finish.

Robinson's second goal of the game came in the 67th minute. Sophomore Mary Beth Hamilton slotted a ball up the middle of the field that the speedy Robinson caught up to just in time to tip past the oncoming goalkeeper. She then had an empty net in front of her for the easy goal.

Freshman Lauren Brodeur and junior Becky Alaimo combined for the shutout in goal for the Hawks. Brodeur made two saves in 73-plus minutes while Alaimo played the final 16:17 and made one save. Hartford's defense has not allowed a goal yet this season in 200 minutes of action.

Fairleigh Dickinson (0-1-0 overall) took eight total shots and put three on goal. Goalkeeper Megan MacKellar made five saves against Hartford 10 shots.

Hartford returns to action on Friday, August 29 at Stetson University at 7 p.m.
