Poughkeepsie, NY ? The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped its first five-set match (25-16, 23-25, 19-25, 25-21, 13-15) of the season to the Marist Red Foxes on Tuesday night. The Hawks (3-7 overall) were led by Erin Macro, who was one of three players to record double digit kills.
Macro finished the match with 15 kills and a .194 attack percentage (8 errors, 36 total attacks), both tops no the team. She was joined in double figures by Hallie Fullagar with 11 kills and Maddison Molyneux with 10 kills. Molyneux also finished second on the team with a .185 attack percentage (five errors, 27 total attacks).
Fullagar finished with a double double, the second of the season for the junior. She finished with 12 digs, second most on the team, to round out the double double. Leading the team on the defensive was Sarah Boss who finished with 15 digs. Rounding out the defensive leaders was Lindsay Ford who finished with her first double digit dig game with 10, completing her first double double of the season. Ford led the team with 35 assists as the primary setter.
As a team, Hartford finished the match hitting .073, connecting on 46 kills, committing 35 errors in 150 total attacks. The Hawks excelled on the serve, recording 10 service aces. Bettina Woodman and Boss led the team in aces with four and three respectively. A pair of freshman led the Hawks blocking attack with Sydney Scott leading the team with eight total blocks, two solo and six block assists. The eight blocks is the most by any Hartford player this season. Michelle Cordell rounded out the leading blockers with five total, one solo and four block assists. The Hawks combined for 14 total team blocks.
The Hawks volleyball team will return to action on Thursday when they travel to West Point, NY for the West Point Classic, hosted by Army. Hartford joins the Black Knights, Dartmouth and the fifth ranked USC Trojans for the two-day event. The Hawks open with the host Black Knights on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. before taking on USC in the afternoon.
