WSoccer Falls in AE Opener

 

STONY BROOK, NY ? The University of Hartford women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision in its America East Conference opener at Stony Brook University on Sunday afternoon.

Hartford (3-4-3 overall, 0-1-0 AE) took 11 shots in the contest but couldn't get one past Stony Brook goalkeeper Marisa Viola, who finished with six saves. Freshman Lauren Brodeur made eight stops in goal for the Hawks.

Stony Brook (5-5-0 overall, 1-0-0 AE) scored the game's only goal in the 19th minute when Brooke Barbuto fed Colleen McKenna for a score. The Seawolves outshot the Hawks 15-11 in the match and held a 3-1 edge on corner kicks.

Hartford will look for its first conference win at Vermont on October 2 at 2 p.m.
