West Hartford, CT - University of Hartford men's soccer player Carlos Villa was named the America East Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon. The honor is given every Monday throughout the regular season.
In the opening game of the UMass Classic on Friday, Villa netted the game-winning goal 28 seconds into a second overtime period to give the Hawks a 1-0 win over Massachusetts, an NCAA Final Four participant last season. The goal was the junior forward's ninth goal in his ninth game of the season. Villa entered the week second in the country in goals per game (1.14 gpg) and fourth in points per game (2.43 ppg).
The Hawks will open the America East conference portion of the 2008 season on Saturday, October 4 when they host New Hampshire at 7 p.m. Hartford looks to maintain its unbeaten home record at Al-Marzook Field.
