Hartford Volleyball Drops Two, 0-3 to Bryant and 1-3 to Sacred Heart


Fairfield, CT - The University of Hartford volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to close out the 2008 Sacred Heart Invitational, falling to Bryant in three sets and Sacred Heart in four sets. The Hawks opened the day with Bryant, falling by scores of 22-25, 20-25, and 18-25. In the second match of the day, Hartford dropped the first set 21-25, before winning set two by a 25-19 margin. The Hawks then dropped sets three and four by scores of 18-25 and 20-25. 

In the opening set, the Hawks struggled in hitting with an attack percentage of .124 for the match (33 kills, 19 errors, 113 total attacks). The Hawks best set came in the second, where they hit .257 from the field (13 kills, four errors, 35 total attacks). Erin Macro led the Hawks against Bryant with 13 kills. Hallie Fullagar finished with seven kills, while Michelle Cordell and Maddison Molyneux each added five kills. Macro led the team in hitting with a .237 attack percentage for the match. She finished with four errors in 38 total attacks.

Lindsay Ford finished the first matfch with 25 assists to lead Hartford, while Sarah Boss led the defense with 15 digs. Macro also led the Hawks with three aces, while as a team Hartford finished with six total blocks. Cordell and Sydney Scott led the team with three blocks each, both finishing with two solo blocks. The Bulldogs finished the match hitting .333 from the field with 45 kills, 13 errors in 96 total attacks.

In the afternoon match, Hartford hit .120 for the four-sets with 41 total kills, 24 errors in 142 total attacks. The Hawks best two sets were two and four, where Hartford hit .159 (14 kills, 7 errors, 44 total attacks) and .135 (10 K, five errors, 37 TA) respectively. Fullagar led the Hawks against Sacred Heart, finishing with 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .323. She finished with only three errors in 31 total attacks. Macro finished second on the team, the only other player with double figure kills with 10 total. She hit .172 for the match with five errors in 29 total attacks.

Ford again led the Hawks with 30 assists, while Danielle Etta led the Hawks defense with 16 digs, one of three players with double figure digs. She was joined by Boss with 12 and Bettina Woodman with 11 digs. The Hawks aagain finished with six total team blocks, with Macro leading the team with four total blocks.

Hartford returns to action with its home opener on Tuesday evening when it welcomes the Quinnipiac Bobcats to the Reich Family Pavilion for a 6:00 p.m. start.
