Beverly Record Highlights Hawks loss at Connecticut

The University of Hartford women's basketball team had its four-game win streak snapped on Thursday night, falling victim to the #1 Connecticut Huskies 80-45 at the XL Center. Hartford falls to 6-2 overall, while the Huskies remain among the unbeaten at 8-0.

The highlight for Hartford came with 5:09 remaining as Erica Beverly grabbed her first rebound of the game which was the only one needed to make Beverly the all-time leading rebounder in school history. Beverly passes Heather Weindorfer who since her graduation in 1997 has been the all-time leading scorer and rebounder at Hartford.

The Hawks were led by senior Diana Delvawho finished with 13 points on 4-of-7 from the field and 5-of-6 at the free throw line. The first four points of the game for Hartford came at the free throw line with Delva going 4-of-4 in the early going. Jackie Smith finished with seven points, while Ruthanne Doherty added six for Hartford.

The Hawks finished the game shooting 34.7 percent from the field, with the second half tops for Hartford, shooting 46.2 percent in the second stanza. The Hawks lost the battle of the boards by a 42-24 margin, with Beverly leading the Hawks in rebounding with four. Beverly also led Hartford with three blocks, extending her school record in blocks to 153. Rookie Daphne Elliott led Hartford with three steals, while Smith led the team with two assists.

Hartford returns to the friendly confines of Chase Arena for a Sunday afternoon matinee against the Northeastern Huskies. The game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Sunday's game will be the Hawks annual Take a Kid to the Game promotion where fans under 12 receive free admission with the purchase of an adult ticket.
