Hanover, N.H. - The University of Hartford men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Dartmouth Invitational in Hanover, N.H. on Saturday afternoon. The squads combined to break three school records.
Freshman Brittney Lawson and sophomore Caitlyn Hauswirth put down a pair of school records to lead the way for the Hartford women on Saturday. Lawson hurled the weight a distance of 15.17-meters, smashing her own school record of 14.40-meters set last week at the Reebok-Boston Invitational. The rookie placed second in the event, seeing the women's highest finish for the afternoon.
In the pole vault, Hauswirth cleared a height of 2.90-meters – 5 centimeters more than her personal-best and school record – and placed sixth overall.
Also excelling in the field events was sophomore Nicolle Adams and classmate Kristalena Lamore. The duo took home third and fourth place honors in the long jump with distances of 5.23-meters and 5.21-meters, respectively.
Junior Diana Kornberg rounded out the Hawks' top-five finishers in the field events. Kornberg took fifth in the shot put with a toss of 11.25-meters.
Ariana Bass led the Hartford women on the track with her third place finish in the 500-meter run. The senior covered the 500-meters in a time of 1:18.33.
In the 400-meter run, the Hawks produced three top-five finishes as Priscilla Appiagyei, Marisa Poleto and Nicole McClintock finished third, fourth and fifth in the event. Appiagyei recorded a time of 59.64, Poleto raced to finish in 1:00.55 while McClintock saw a time of 1:01.25.
Six top-five finishes highlighted the Hartford men's performances on Saturday, including a first place finish by the 4x200-meter relay team. The Hawks' lone top finish of the afternoon came with a school record as the foursome of sprinters (Christopher Carr, Eric Ciccone, Anthony Carrasquillo and Anderson Emerole) combined for a time of 1:31.87, beating out the six-year old school record of 1:33.38.
Emerole, Warren Lane and Mike DuPaul continued to impress in the indoor season with top-five finishes in their respective events. Emerole took second in the 200-meter dash as he clocked in at 22.65. Lane and DuPaul took the fourth and fifth spots in the 400-meter run, covering the track in 50.96 and 51.17, respectively.
The men's 4x800-meter relay squad, made up of Wayne Lawrence, Christopher Rodriguez, Robert Giuliani and DuPaul put out a solid performance with its third place finish. The team raced to finish the relay in 8:10.58.
In the field events, Ackeme Brown's leap of 6.74-meters was good for third place honors in the long jump.
Hartford will be back in action on Friday, February 12 as the Hawks travel to New York City for the Rider/Lafayette Invitational.
