Harrison Sprints to Conference Weekly Honor

AMERICA EAST RELEASE

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Tiffany Harrison of the University of Hartford women's track and field team earned her first America East weekly honor when she was named the conference's Track Performer of the Week for women's indoor track and field. The conference office announced the four weekly honorees Tuesday afternoon.

Harrison, a sophomore from Bloomfield, Conn., picked up a victory in the 500-meter dash at the Harvard Open on Saturday. Harrison's winning time of 1:17.46 led a trio of Hawk women who finished in the top-four of the event standings as seniors Priscilla Appiagyei and Natalie Bonham finished third and fourth, respectively. Harrison's time also qualified her to race the event at the New England Championship meet.

The Bloomfield native also anchored the Hartford women's 4x400-meter relay to a win in its heat. Teaming with Appiagyei, Bonham and senior Keshia Redhead, Harrison helped the foursome overcome a 10-meter deficit early in the race to win the heat by four seconds. The Hawks posted a time of 4:04.87 to take fourth place overall.

Harrison also raced in the 55-meter dash at the meet, stopping the clock with a personal-best time of 7.60 seconds in the preliminary heats of the event.

Harrison and the Hawks wrapped up the 2012 portion of their schedule at Harvard. The Hartford track and field teams will be back in action after a six-week winter break when they head to the University of Rhode Island January 19, 2013.
