Hawks Wrap Conference Championship with Record Performances

FINAL RESULTS
 
NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The University of Hartford track and field teams wrapped up action at the 2014 America East Indoor Championship Monday afternoon at The Armory. The Hawks posted strong results on the meet's final day, including a pair of school records and numerous point-scoring and personal-record performances.
 
Overall, both Hawk squads finished ninth in the team standings with the women taking 23 points while the men posted seven points. The women's total marked the highest point total at the conference meet in program history.
 
Albany swept the meet, earning the championship title on both the men's and women's sides while Binghamton finished as the runner-up in each of the final standings.
 
Highlighting Hartford's Monday performances were Sam Crisafulli in the women's 1,000-meter run and Erik Quitzau in the men's 60-meter hurdles final. Crisafulli set the school-record in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:56.21, .27 seconds ahead of her previous school best. The junior finished fifth in the event. In the men's 60-meter hurdles final, Quitzau raced to a seventh-place mark, crossing the line in a school-record 8.61 seconds. Quitzau set the previous record of 8.64 during yesterday's preliminary heats.
 
The Hartford men also found points in the triple jump as both Rashawn Providence and Robert Pepper notched personal-best marks. Providence bounded to a mark of 13.91 meters to finish fifth overall in the event, bettering his personal-record by .37 meters. Pepper turned in a mark of 13.40 meters, tying for eighth place with teammate Jordan Crump-King.
 
On the women's side, Tiffany Harrison and Megan Barry scored as individuals for the Hawks. Harrison notched fifth place in the 400-meter dash final with a time of 58.48 on Monday. Barry raced to a time of 10:05.43 to finish seventh in the 3,000-meter run.  
 
Additionally, the Hartford women scored points in a pair of relays to close out the meet. Harrison, along with Rebecca Cheatham, Merrica Modeste and Opeyemi Osuntuyi finished seventh overall in the 4x400-meter relay. Crisafulli combined with Mikela Freeman, Jennifer Flores and Samanta Hock to take eighth in the 4x800 relay.
 
Hartford track and field continues the indoor season next Friday and Saturday when it enters into the New England Championships.
