Jumpers Lead Hawks at Dartmouth Invitational

COMPLETE RESULTS

HANOVER, N.H. – The jumpers for the University of Hartford track and field team led the Hawks at the Dartmouth Indoor Classic Saturday inside the Leverone Field House. As a group, the jumpers posted one win and a total of eight top-10 finishes in three events.

On the men's side, the triple jump took center stage as the Hawks swept the podium. Freshman Jordan Crump-King led a trio of Hawks with a leap of 13.51 meters. Sophomore Robert Pepper finished second with a mark of 13.07 meters, followed by senior Rashawn Providence in third with a leap of 12.62 meters.

Head coach Steve Walsh was pleased by the results of his jumpers on Saturday. "The men taking the top three spots in the triple jump, with Jordan winning as a freshman, was one of the most impressive performances we have had so far this season," Walsh said after the meet. "Also, the women in the high jump competed very well, taking three of the top-10 spots and with each setting a new collegiate personal best."

In the women's high jump, freshman Lauren Bossi, sophomore Margaret Fuller and freshman Savannah Brown each cleared a height of 1.53 meters to finish seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively.

Brown earned another top-10 mark in the triple jump, leaping 10.18 meters. Senior Ally Thatcher took tenth place in the event with a spot of 10.05 meters.

The Hawks also fared well on the track in the women's 1,000-meter run. A year ago at the Dartmouth meet, Sam Crisafulli set what was then the school-record in the event with a time of 3:05.95. A trio of Hawks broke to the 3:05 mark Saturday, led by Crisafulli, who took second place in the event with a time of 3:00.11. Freshman Mikela Freeman took seventh, crossing the line in 3:04.26, just ahead of senior Jen Flores, who finished eighth in 3:04.78.

In the sprints, sophomore Kafesha Thomas dashed to a seventh-place finish with a time of 8.21 seconds in the 60-meter final, edging junior Merrica Modeste, who crossed the line in 8.22 seconds to finish eighth. Modeste qualified for the final after winning her preliminary heat.

Walsh saw progress across the board at this meet, "what our performances today tell me is that, while we didn't set any new school records, we are continuing to improve and strengthen the depth of the team across multiple event areas."

The Hartford track and field teams are back in action Friday, February 7 when they head back to Boston, Mass., for the Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University.
