STONY BROOK, N.Y.— The University of Hartford continued its outdoor meet schedule Saturday at the Stony Brook Spring Opener. In a meet with dual scoring, pitting each of the five schools in attendance against each other for head-to-head scoring, the Hawks picked up wins over both La Salle and Providence on both the men's and women's sides in addition to solid overall performances.
The sprinters highlighted the Hawk performers at the meet, taking home six top-five finishes, including a win in the men's 300-meter dash.
Freshman
Lawrence Williams took home the top spot for the Hartford men in the 300-meter dash. The rookie raced around the track in a time of 35.57. Fellow freshmen
Alex Paterson and
Dominic DiCarlo also posted top-five marks in the 100-meter dash. Paterson took second place with a time of 11.51 while DiCarlo crossed the line in 11.73 seconds to finish third.
On the women's side, junior
Tiffany Harrison turned in a time of 41.58 seconds to take second place in the 300 meters. In the 100 meters, sophomore
Kafesha Thomas took second in the 100-meter dash, sprinting to a time of 12.98. Freshman
Tulie Finley-Moise picked up a fifth-place result in the 100, crossing the line in 13.18.
Hartford also picked up a pair of wins, taking first in both the men's and women's 400-meter hurdles. Senior
Erik Quitzau finished with a time of 59.75 seconds to win on the men's side. Sophomore
Opeyemi Osuntuyi won for the women with a mark of 1:12.18. Senior
Rebecca Cheatham finished fifth in the event, posting a time of 1:14.40.
Next up for the Hawks is a trip to Williamsburg, Va., for the Colonial Relays April 4-5.
