THE LEAD: The University of Hartford women's basketball team dropped an 83-47 decision at Michigan on Friday night. Senior Katelyn Skinner led the Hawks' offense with a career-high 11 points behind a 3-of-7 effort from long range, while junior Deanna Mayza added 10 points, marking her fifth double-figure scoring game this season. Senior Mallory Shickora also notched a career-high in scoring, as she finished with nine points, all of which came from behind the arc. Michigan, which shot 53.2 percent on the night, placed two players in double figures, led by Katelynn Flaherty's 24 points.

FIRST HALF:
The Hawks got off to a cold start, allowing Michigan to jump out to an 8-0 lead behind two-straight long range makes from Flaherty and a Hallie Thome bucket. But the shots started to fall for Hartford, as it shook off an 0-for-10 start from the floor and scored the next seven points of the game to close the gap to 8-7 with 2:12 to go. Mallory Shickora put her team on the board with 3:20 left in the stanza with a deep three-pointer, before Lee and Mayza delivered back-to-back layups 17 seconds apart to make it a one point game.

Michigan picked up the pace offensively, though, as it closed out the opening quarter with four-straight points before extending that run to 14-0 in the opening minutes of the second. Triples from Thompson and Flaherty fueled a 10-0 spurt that put the Wolverines on top by a 22-7 count with 7:44 left to play. The Hawks pulled within 11 of the Wolverines with 2:54 to go, as a Skinner jump shot followed by five-straight points from Mayza made it 30-19, but Michigan ended the half with seven-straight points to take a 37-19 lead into intermission.

SECOND HALF:
Michigan came out of the gates on point, as it missed just three shots of its first 14 shots of the stanza to extend its lead to 36 at 66-30. The Wolverines shot 66.7 percent during that stretch and scored 15-straight points over a 2:39 stretch to put the game away. In the final quarter, Hartford converted on four shots from long range, but the offense continued to roll for Michigan as well. A three-pointer, Michigan's 10th of the game, by Danielle Williams provided the Wolverines with their largest lead of the game (41) with 4:30 left to play.
