WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Right fielder Peyton Fisher led the Hawks bats with a pair of hits over the doubleheader as the University of Hartford softball team drop both ends of the twin bill to the UMass Lowell River Hawks; 8-1 in the opener and 8-0 in the nightcap. Hartford and UMass Lowell will conclude the three-game series on Sunday afternoon with the first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. Prior to the game, the Hawks will honor three senior members of the team; Jackie Kelly, Ana Alberti and Maggie Betz.
Fisher's two hits were part of seven total for the Hawks with the remaining five all coming from different players. Fished also drove in the Hawks only run of the afternoon when she plated second baseman Marisa Ferguson who originally reached base on a single to right field. That run gave the Hawks a 1-0 lead, but the River Hawks responded right away pushing six runs across in the next half inning to take the lead for good.
Ferguson and Fisher both knocked singles in that opening game while the Hawks only other hit in the game was a double off the bat of catcher Sawyer Fried. In the second game all four hits for Hartford came from different players with one of the four going for extra bases, a double down the left field line from short stop Jamie Soles.
Inside the circle, the Hawks two starters suffered the losses. In the opening game, Kelsey Bird dropped her ninth decision of the season (2-9 overall), allowing five runs, all earned, on three hits and five walks. She also struck out two. Bianca Ross suffered the decision in the second game, falling to 0-13 on the season. Ross pitched one-plus innings and allowed four runs on four hits and two walks. She also struck out one batter.
