THE LEAD:
A well-balanced offensive attack led the University of Hartford women's basketball team past Charleston Southern, 62-43, on Saturday afternoon as part of the FIU Thanksgiving Tournament.
Junior Lindsey Abed and senior Darby Lee each led the team in scoring, netting 13 points, while senior Janelle Harrison led the team in rebounding, grabbing 12 boards to go along with nine points and three steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hawks and Bucs traded blows in the first quarter. Off five points from freshman Jade Young, the Hawks held a slim 13-12 lead heading into the second quarter. Using a quick three from Abed coming out of the break, Hartford took an 18-12 led early in the period. The Bucs responded with a 14-3 run, though, to gain a 29-24 lead heading into the halftime break.
- The Hawks came out in the second half on fire, going on a 10-3 run to regain the advantage with 3:51 to go in the third quarter. They would keep the hot hand going throughout the second half, extending their run to 36-11 to clinch the win with the 62-43 decision. Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERS & NOTES:
- The Bucs were slightly more efficient then Hawks from the field (35.6%-32.2%)
- The Hawks outrebounded the Bucs (41-34).
- Hartford tallied 15 steals, compared to Charleston Southern's three.
- Harrison had a game-high 12 boards while scoring nine points.
UP NEXT:
The Hawks will compete for the FIU Thanksgiving Tournament title when they play Alabama A&M tomorrow at noon.
