THE LEAD:
A walk-off victory in game two earned Manhattan a doubleheader sweep over the Hartford softball team on Tuesday in Riverdale, N.Y. The Hawks fell to 2-9 on the season, while Manhattan is now 3-4.
GAME 1: MANHATTAN 9, HARTFORD 2
Elizabeth Newkirk went 2-for-3 with two RBI, but Manhattan got off to a quick start in posting a 9-2 victory. Christine Gebhardt (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 2 runs) and Jenn Vazquez (3-for-3, 3 RBI) led the offense for the Jaspers.

Seniors
Danielle DeMarco and
Marisa Ferguson each went 2-for-3 in a losing effort for the Hawks. Briana Matazinsky allowed six hits in seven innings to post the victory, while
Bianca Ross picked up the loss for Hartford.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 1:
• Manhattan plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, one on a Vazquez single and the other on a Lauren Pitney single.
• The Jaspers put another crooked number on the board in the bottom of the second, plating four runs, including a three-run triple from Gebhardt.
• Hartford responded in the top of the fifth with Newkirk doubling home
Kristen DeCiantis and
Kylie Dazalla.
• Manhattan added two insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the sixth to result in the final score.

GAME 2: MANHATTAN 3, HARTFORD 2
The Jaspers took the second game on a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a dramatic victory in game two.

Lexi Wilkerson hit a two-run homer in a losing effort for the Hawks, while Shannon Puthe went 2-for-4 and scored the game-winning run for Manhattan.

Kayla McDermott registered the victory for the Jaspers, allowing three hits and two walks with six strikeouts in a complete game. Freshman
Isabella Gerone was carded with a tough-luck loss after allowing three runs, but just one earned, in 6 2/3 frames.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 2:
• Wilkerson got the Hawks on the board first, sending a blast over the wall in left field to plate DeMarco for her second home run of the year and a 2-0 lead.
• Gerone kept the score there through the first five innings, stranding six Jaspers baserunners to keep the home squad off the scoreboard.
• Manhattan finally cracked the board with a pair of unearned runs that were singled home by McDermott with two out in the bottom of the sixth.
• The Jaspers earned the win in the bottom of the seventh as Puthe singled, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and finally came home on a Vazquez sacrifice fly.

The Hawks head west for the LMU/CSUN Tournament, where they will play five games in three days. The action begins with clashes against host Loyola Marymount and Cal State Bakersfield on Friday in Los Angeles.
