THE LEAD:
The Hartford softball team was bested on Sunday in a pair of strong pitching performances, with UMass Lowell taking both ends of a doubleheader, 6-0 and 3-1.

GAME 1: UMASS LOWELL 6, HARTFORD 0
UMass Lowell got strong offense early and Kaysee Talcik delivered a no-hitter, walking three in earning the victory. Courtney Cashman and Vanessa Cooper each had three hits in the win for the River Hawks.

Melissa Pereira was credited with the loss, going four innings, while Isabella Gerone tossed three shutout innings out of the bullpen.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 1:
• UML got its first run of the game on a Sydney Barker RBI single in the top of the first with two down to make it 1-0.
• The River Hawks doubled that advantage in the second, again with two outs, this time on an RBI single to left for Tori Alcorn.
• UMass Lowell got its biggest inning in the third, plating three runs on three hits and two errors.
• The visitors made it 6-0 in the top of the fourth on a bases-loaded walk with two away.

GAME 2: UMASS LOWELL 3, HARTFORD 1
Bianca Ross and Lauren Ramirez engaged in a pitcher's duel, but UML got a pivotal two-run home run from Barker to earn a 3-1 victory. Ramirez allowed three hits and one walk in the win, while Ross allowed just five hits without surrendering a free pass in the loss.

Ross had an RBI single to plate Kylie Dazalla in the first in a losing effort.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 2:
• Hartford got things going quickly in game two, with Dazalla delivering a leadoff single, moving to second on a groundout and coming around to score on Ross' RBI single.
• UMass Lowell got a big inning in the top of the fourth, scoring one run on an RBI single and two on Barker's two-run shot, all with two outs.
• That was all the offense for both sides, as both Ross and Ramirez put up zeroes the rest of the way.
