THE LEAD:
The Hartford softball team was toppled in a pair of contests on Thursday to be eliminated from the 2017 America East Tournament. The Hawks had collected their first tournament victory since 2007 in Wednesday's action.

GAME 1: MAINE 9, HARTFORD 1
Meghan Royle went 2-for-4 and drove in five runs to lead Maine past the Hawks. Erin Bogdanovich and Molly Flowers combined to allow just one earned run in the contest.

Rachel Carlson went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, while Felicia Lennon and Sarah Coyne each scored twice in the win.
Meghan Wynn had the Hawks' only hit in the contest, while
Kylie Dazalla scored the run for the Hawks.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 1:
• The Black Bears plated two runs in the bottom of the first, one on a bases-loaded walk and the other on a wild pitch, to hold a 2-0 lead.
• Hartford cut into the advantage in the top of the fourth when Dazalla came in on a wild pitch.
• Maine put a crooked number on the board in the bottom of the frame, plating four runs on four hits to gain a 6-1 advantage.
• The Black Bears plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth on a bases-clearing triple by Royle to end the contest.

GAME 2: STONY BROOK 7, HARTFORD 3
Elizabeth Newkirk had two hits and drove in three runs, but Stony Brook got out to a fast start and held on late to post a 7-3 victory over the Hawks in the final game of the day.

Jourdin Herring had three hits and Lexie Shue and Taylor Pechin each hit home runs as Stony Brook advanced to the next day of the Tournament.
Marisa Ferguson had two hits and
Lexi Wilkerson and
Meghan Wynn each had base knocks in their final career games.

Pechin drove in three, while Irene Rivera delivered a pair of RBI as well. Hering scored twice, and Lindsey Hughes collected the win for the Seawolves.
Bianca Ross was carded with the loss for the Hawks.

HOW THEY SCORED, GAME 2:
• Stony Brook opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second on two hits.
• The Seawolves added a single run in the bottom of the second on a Shue solo home run.
• In the third, Stony Brook got four runs, including a three-run homer by Pechin and one on a squeeze bunt, to put the lead at 7-0
• Newkirk put the Hawks on the board with a two-run single in the top of the fifth that plated
Amber Mianti and Ferguson to make it 7-2.
• The junior added an RBI groundout in the seventh to plate Wynn to result in the final score.
