THE LEAD:
A three-run seventh inning lifted the University of Hartford softball team past Fairfield, 5-4, on Wednesday afternoon in Fairfield.

Freshman Danielle Rocheleau laced a two-run double down the left field line, later being driven in by a sacrifice fly from senior Alex Saharek in the seventh inning to put the Hawk up, 6-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hawks opened the game up in a big way, scoring a pair of runs in the opening frame. Freshman Nicollette Barranger ripped a one-out single before advancing to third off a Rocheleau walk and wild pitch. Barranger later scored on a wild pitch before Rocheleau also crossed the plate on a passed ball.
  • The Stags scored one in the third and the fifth before a two-run homer in the sixth put them ahead, 4-2.
  • The Hawks showed their resiliency in the seventh, as Rocheleau laced a two-run double down the left field line, later being driven in by a sacrifice fly from senior Alex Saharek in the seventh inning to put the Hawk up, 6-5.
  • Senior Bianca Ross shut down the side in the bottom of the seventh, giving the Hawks the 5-4 decision.
