THE LEAD:
Highlighted by a three-home run outing in game two by freshman
Danielle Rocheleau, the Hawks fell in both ends of their doubleheader against Binghamton in Vestal on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
- The Bearcats capitalized on a leadoff double from Jessica Rutherford, who was driven in off an RBI single. Binghamton later added another run in the opening frame off an RBI double to left center from Rozlyn Price to put the Bearcats up, 2-0
- Binghamton added three runs off three hits in the third, extending their lead to 5-0.
- The broke through in the fourth inning. Junior Kylie Dazalla opened the frame with a single to center field, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from freshman Danielle Rocheleau before being driven in by an RBI single to center from senior Alex Saharek, putting the Hawks on the board, 5-1.
- Dazalla came through again in the fifth, driving in Freshman Nicolette Barranger on an RBI double to left and cutting the Bearcats lead to 5-2.
- Binghamton added one in the in both the fifth and the sixth to take the 7-2 decision.
Game 2
- The Bearcats started early once again, scoring one in both the first and second inning before the Hawks took the lead in the third. Barranger worked a one-out walk and freshman Lily Sencer single to right field set Rocheleau for a three-run long ball to center pit the Hawks up 3-2.
- Binghamton responded in the bottom of the third, knotting the game back up at three by walking in a run before taking a 5-3 lead off a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
- Rocheleau struck again in the sixth, launching a two-run shot —driving in Dazalla who laced a leadoff double— to draw the Hawks even with the Bearcats at five.
- Binghamton quickly responded, scoring six runs off four hits and a pair of Hartford errors in the bottom half of the frame to retake an 11-5 lead.
- The Hawks mounted a rally in the seventh, loading the bases with two out to set up Rocheleau for her third home run of the afternoon, blasting a grand slam. The Hawks rally fell short, giving the Bearcats the 11-9 decision
