Hartford Indoor Track and Field Succeeds at NYC Gotham Cup

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.  – Hartford indoor track and field had a successful day of competition in Staten Island on Friday, when it competed in the NYC Gotham Cup. The Hawks saw several top-ten finishes and personal bests at the competitive meet.

HARTFORD MEN HIGHLIGHTS 
  • The men saw two top-five finishes on Saturday, including one from senior Nurlan Herburger and another from sophomore Nicholas O'Brien
  • Herburger claimed fifth place among a competitive field of 36 in the 5,000m with a personal best time of 15:32
  • O'Brien took fifth place in the mile among a field of 70 with a personal best time of 4:25
  • Junior Sean Garrison earned a ninth-place finish in the 5k with a time of 15:46
  • Rookie Dylan Murad finished 11th in the shot put among a competitive field of 71 after throwing a personal best mark of 13.88m

HARTFORD WOMEN HIGHLIGHTS
  • The women also saw two top-five finishes, including another strong finish from rookie Haleemot Adeyanju and a good team effort from the distance medley relay
  • Adeyanju took fifth out of 33 in the 1,000m with a time of 3:05
  • The distance medley relay team of Adeyanju, Elizabeth Lodge, Jules Wesley and Nicole Demars earned runner-up honors with a time of 12:52
  • Rookie Jaela Thomas earned top-20 accolades on two occasions, after taking 13th in the 60m dash (8.06) among a competitive field of 79 and 17th in the 200m (26.60) among a field of 63

NEXT ON TAP
The Hawks will return to action next weekend at the John Thomas Terrier Classic. Hosted by Boston University, the two-day event will begin on Friday, Jan. 25 (women) and will conclude on Saturday, Jan. 26 (men).
