Hawks Open Conference Play with Rout of Seawolves

STONY BROOK, N.Y. –Hartford forced 26 turnovers by Stony Brook as the Hawks opened America East play with a 64-36 win over the Seawolves Wednesday night.
 
For the third straight game, graduate student Ella Awobajo was the game's leading scorer, finishing with 16 points, as the Hawks move above .500 for the first time this season at 8-7. Anastasia Warren and India Pagan each scored a team-high eight points, as Stony Brook falls to 11-3 overall.
 
HARTFORD 64 STONY BROOK 36
After a close first quarter, the Hawks took control of the game in the second, outscoring the Seawolves 14-6 before the intermission. Junior Sierra DaCosta capped off the run with a three to beat the buzzer, giving Hartford the 31-20 lead going into halftime.   
 
The Hawks put their stamp on the game in the third quarter with a 21-5 run. Six different players scored for Hartford in the period, led by senior Lindsey Abed and Awobajo combining for 13 points. The Hawks wrapped up the game in the fourth quarter, as Hartford outscored Stony Brook in every quarter on its way to the 64-36 victory. 
 
NEWS AND NOTES
  • Awobajo has averaged 21 points over her last three games and has now scored in double figures in eight of her last nine.
  • Today's 28-point win was the Hawks' largest conference road victory since topping UMass Lowell by 39 (81-42) on Jan. 10, 2018.
  • Abed matched a career-high with seven steals. It is the second time this season that she has recorded seven steals and she currently is second in the conference with 2.7 steals per game.
  • Hartford came one swipe short of matching a season-high with 21 steals tonight and scored 34 points off of 26 Stony Brook turnovers. It is the second time this season the Hawks have had 20 or more steals in a game. 
  • The Hawks shot a season-high 50% (29-58) from the field.
  • Its the Hawks fourth consecutive road win of the season. It is the longest winning streak as visitors since Hartford won three straight away from West Hartford during the 2016-17 season.
