Cross Country Puts In Strong Showing at UAlbany Preview Meet

ALBANY, N.Y. – Hartford cross country had an outstanding meet that featured a host of personal bests, as both teams finished inside the top-five when it continued its 2019 season by competing in the UAlbany preview meet on Friday afternoon. The women's team placed third overall in the 5k while the men's team finished in fifth place in the 8k race.
 
HARTFORD MEN HIGHLIGHTS
  • Each runner for the Hawks in the 8k set a new season-best in this afternoon's race
  • Junior Nicholas O'Brien was the first Hartford finisher in the 8k for the second consecutive meet as he crossed the line in 26:01.8 for 11th place
  • Senior Sean Garrison was the second Hawk to cross the line as he placed 18th with a time of 26:07.2
  • Freshman Keith May rounded out the top three finishers for Hartford, completing the race in a time of 26:41 for 26th place
  • Binghamton were the men's 8k winners after having their points finishers place fourth through eighth
  • Hartford edged both Marist and Colgate 
 
HARTFORD WOMEN HIGHLIGHTS
  • Each member of the team ran a season-best time during the 5k race
  • The women placed ahead of conference-rival Binghamton, which is the first time in five years that they placed ahead of the Bearcats
  • The Hawks also finished ahead of strong competition in Colgate and Marist
  • Sophomore Grace Furlong had another strong showing as she led the Hawks in the 5k for the third consecutive meet, finishing in 16th with a time of 19:11.5
  • Sophomore Haleemot Adeyanju trailed right behind, as she ran a 19:16 to finish in 17th
  • Freshman Hannah D'Orso rounded out the top-three finishers for the Hawks as she finished the 5k in 19:17.3 for 18th place
  • America East rival Stony Brook won the women's 5k event after having five finishers place inside the top ten

NEXT ON TAP
The Hawks return to action next week when they head to nearby Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn., for the CCSU Mini Meet on Friday, Oct. 25. Hartford then returns to UAlbany for the America East Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2.
