Career Night for Abed Leads Hawks to Dominating Victory

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. –Senior Lindsey Abed set a conference and school record with 10 three pointers as Hartford completed the regular season sweep of UMBC with the 92-47 victory Wednesday night.

On top of her 10 three-pointers, Abed tied a school record with a game-high 36 points, as the Hawks improve to 16-8 on the year and 9-1 in conference play. Junior Tyler Moore finished with a team-high 11 points, as the Retrievers fall to 8-14 overall and 1-8 in the America East.

Hartford wasted little time taking control of the game, starting off on a 15-3 run capped off by a three-pointer from Abed with 5:42 remaining in the first quarter. The Hawks finished the opening period shooting 66.7 percent (14-21) from the field and scored 20 points off of 14 UMBC turnovers. The Hawks continued to dominate in the second quarter, pushing their lead to as many as 24 points, as Hartford took a 50-27 lead into the locker room.
 
With the game well in hand in the third quarter, Abed continued to chase her school record of eight three pointers in a single game set last season. She tied her record in style, going a perfect 8-8 from deep through the first three quarters and then broke the record with 5:19 remaining in the period. Hartford wrapped up the game in the final quarter, securing its ninth America East win of the season, 92-47.
 
NEWS AND NOTES
  • Abed's 10 three pointers breaks her school record of eight three pointers set last season in a 91-52 win against Vermont (Feb. 17, 2018) and also broke the America East record of nine set by Erica Carter of Binghamton (2009) and Jen Schumacher of UAlbany (2005)
  • Abed also tied the school record with 36 points, matching Janeka Lopp's total from the 2000-01 season. She is only the eighth player in program history to score 30 or more points
  • Hartford matched a season-high for points in a first half with 50 and finished with the third most points in a single game in school history
  • Senior Alexia Douglas finished with a season-high 16 points and has registered three or more steals in five of her last six games 
  • In her second career start, freshman Jabria Ingram matched a career-high with 11 points, four assists and three steals
  • Freshman Jordan McLemore dished out a career-high six assists to lead the Hawks to a season-high 24 assists
