Softball Sweeps Midweek Doubleheader with Peacocks

 
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. –Hartford softball pushed its winning streak to four straight, taking two from Saint Peter's, 17-7 and 8-5, Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.
 
Freshman Julianna Kocenski registered five RBI in game one and classmate Emma Curry hit two home runs in game two, as the Hawks improve to 8-10 on the season. Sophomore Theamaris Ramirez hit a home run in each one of the games, as the Peacocks fell to 3-17 overall.
 
GAME ONE: HARTFORD 17 SAINT PETER'S 7 (SIX INNINGS)  
Hartford fell behind by two twice early in the game, before scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the 7-5 lead. Saint Peter's closed back within one (7-6) in the fifth on a Ramirez home run, but the Hawks answered with two of their own in the bottom of the inning.
 
Hartford blew the game open in the sixth inning, scoring eight runs to close the game out, 17-7. Freshman Paige Fedak and Kocenski highlighted the inning as Fedak hit a two-RBI double down the right field line, followed by a three-run bomb from Kocenski to end the game. 
 
GAME TWO: HARTFORD 8 SAINT PETER'S 5
Saint Peter's ran out to a 5-2 lead through three innings, doing all its damage in the fourth behind a two-RBI triple from senior Harley Connors, a RBI single from junior Alina Guevara and a two-run home run from Ramirez. The Hawks began to climb back into the game, scoring a run in the third, fourth and two in the fifth for the 6-5 lead.
 
Hartford pushed its lead to three in the sixth, as sophomore Danielle Rocheleau launched a triple down the right field line, plating senior Lily Sencer and Curry for the 8-5 lead. Junior Isabella Gerone closed the door on a Peacock's comeback, forcing sophomore Natasha Solano to groundout with two runners on and wrap up the Hawks' second win of the day.
 
NEWS AND NOTES
  • On top of her five RBI, Kocenski (5-5) pitched her sixth complete game of the season in game one, allowing six earned runs on nine hits and striking out five batters
  • Gerone (2-2) earned the win in relief in game two, allowing no runs on hits and striking out a season-high three
  • With her two home runs on the day, Curry pushes her season total to three, which is tied for third on the team
